hereHistory:
herePersonality: Courtney Crimsen starts as one of the main antagonists of 13 Reasons Why. She's the one who throws Hannah Baker under the bus to deflect from the photograph of two girls kissing, one of them Hannah and the other one Courtney. She's so willing to keep herself from taking any responsibility for her role in Hannah's life and death that she'll defend a rapist rather than face the reality that what Hannah said in her tapes were true. However, in the course of a single episode of Season Two, she manages a complete heel face turn, admits that she's a lesbian, admits that her treatment of Hannah likely contributed to Hannah's death, admits that the school doesn't do enough to stop bullying, and from then on starts to live honestly as an out lesbian.
Courtney is a
COWARD. Despite having two dads, she's too afraid to come out as a lesbian. She lies, deflects, and places blame elsewhere in her attempt to stay closeted. She imagines the entire school laughing at her and making fun of her for being a "lesbo." When another student takes a picture of Courtney and Hannah kissing and passes it around the school, Courtney denies that it's her in the picture, passes the blame to another girl who looks similar to Courtney, and spreads the rumor that Hannah asked Courtney to be in a threesome. She's so desperate to protect her precious reputation that she'll do anything, blame anyone to keep people from realizing the truth about her sexuality.
Courtney is a
MANIPULATOR. She acts sweet and friendly and caring at school while keeping the darker side of her personality carefully hidden. In the first episode, she approaches Clay and expresses her condolences about Hannah's death, gives him a hug, and offers to let him talk to her about his feelings. She's quick to point out the memorial to Hannah at school to the other girl's mom, even though it's made up of largely insincere gestures by people who didn't even know Hannah. And as soon as the tapes get out, she's largely concerned with how to protect her reputation rather than admit what was on the tapes was true and come to terms with reality.
Courtney is
COLD-BLOODED. She completely denies her role in the destruction of Hannah's reputation, laying the blame solely on Hannah. When the tapes Hannah made about her life are made public, her first reaction is to go into damage control mode, helping others on the tape get together and try to come up with a cover story that removes the blame from them and put it solely on Hannah. She even goes so far as to be willing to defend a character who has raped two girls on the show rather than accept culpability. Above all else, she wants to keep her reputation intact and remain in the closet and she's willing to do anything to do so.
But in the course of a single episode, Courtney achieves
REDEMPTION. When placed on the witness stand in the trial to determine whether or not the school bore any responsibility for Hannah's death, she at first tries to maintain the facade. However, when she's presented with more photos of herself and Hannah kissing, she falters and then admits that the other girl in the photos was her. When the defense tries to lead Courtney into saying that Hannah was the one with the crush and a sexual predator, Courtney denies it, says that she was the one with the crush and that she personally and the school as a whole didn't do enough to protect Hannah after the picture of the two of them got out. After that point, Courtney has nothing to do with the others who had been trying to make Hannah look bad to protect their reputations. She also attends Hannah's memorial service, close to the front of the pews. The final time we see Courtney in the second season, it's at a school dance. A song which was important to Hannah came on, she and a number of other students close to Hannah join together in a huddle and dance to the song.
Courtney Crimsen is an incredibly complex character. She starts out as easily one of the worst people in season one for a multitude of reasons, all of which playing into her character flaws, to becoming one of the best people in season two. All because she finally decided to come out and live her truth while accepting Hannah's truth as a reality.

Hi! It's getting closer and closer to June and that means we're getting closer and closer to Pride Month.
I know it might seem strange to celebrate Pride when so many of us fall somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum, but that's why we should celebrate. Because there are so many of us here, living our truths and I think it's time we honored that.
Don't worry about the organization and promotion. I can take care of that. Though, I am taking suggestions on where we ought to have it. I'd assume somewhere in the Down so that even uncontracted submissives could go. Is there a park other than the one there? That one's a little gloomy and not exactly right for a festive atmosphere.
Okay, I'm going to be here to answer any questions you might have and take suggestions for where we should have it. Together, we can show all of Duplicity that we're here, we're queer, and it's important.
